Abele Tractor started in the 1870s as a blacksmith shop and shoeing horses fabricating, and repairing farm tools. Nicholas Miller, grandfather of Thelma Abele began the business in West Albany.
His son William Miller worked in the New York Central Railroad yards. William Miller had a reputation for exceptional mechanical ability. He joined the business as a machinist. In 1940 Miller hired Ken Abele.
The first year Abele was there one of the largest tow trucks on the East Coast was engineered and built by Miller and Abele. In December of 1940 Ken Abele married William Miller’s daughter Thelma. In 1943 Ken took over the business for Miller. Soon after World War II Ken and Thelma focused on selling and servicing farm, and construction equipment. Over the next thirty years New York grew considerably and required construction equipment for infrastructure projects and housing demands. The State University, Empire State Plaza, and New York State Thruway were large projects where Abele provided equipment.
The forth generation Warren and Rod Abele continue the business in construction equipment supply, service and parts. They have grown the business to supply construction equipment to a large geographic area. Abele equipment was instrumental in the reconstruction of FDR drive in Manhattan. Abele Tractor continues to innovate and improve on products available for excavation.
Recently after graduating from Siena college Jeff Abele joined the business. Jeff began working as a mechanic at a very early age. Jeff has a broad and deep understanding of construction equipment and its applications. Abele Tractor is still located in the original location at 72 Everett Road, Albany, New York.
