CARRIERE & POIRIER EQ

CARRIERE & POIRIER EQ

starstarstarstarstar

A family owned business since then, it was founded by our grandfather, René Carrière as a Massey Ferguson dealership for the farming community of the Prescott & Russell counties. Called the tractor years, he was able to convince farmers to go more mechanical & equiped themselves with better tractors & implements.

In 1966, his daughter Monique and future son in law André Poirier (our parents) joined him and started a sales team that gave this dealership many top honors as one of the best volume dealership in Ontario for Massey Ferguson.

But with the oil crises in the U.S. and a diminishing demand worldwide and locally for farm tractors & implements, the company had to find a new line that would cover a bigger base of customers. The year was 1978 and Kubota was the answer. With only 3 different models available at that time, these compact 4 wheel drive units were appealing to homeowners that were dreaming of owning a small tractor that could do chores around the house and field.

In 1983, André become the sole proprietor of the company which was then named René Carrière Company Ltd. The name was then changed to Carrière & Poirier Equipment Ltd. to indicate the evolution of the company. Within a few years and with less farmers in the community, André decided to stop selling the Massey Ferguson line & concentrate more on the Kubota lineup . In just a few years, this japanese line had grown into a full line of tractor from 10 h.p. to 90 h.p.. They also came out with some mini-construction equipment (excavators & wheel loaders) that would revolutionize the construction & rental industries.

In 1987, I (Luc Poirier) joined the family business as a full time employee starting in parts & later becoming a salesman. Since then, we added many other lines (Thomas skid steer, TCM forklifts) and even started distributing a few lines like the Bradco backhoes, the Exmark commercial mower & the Trailtech trailers. We also had major renovation done in 1991 to our sales & part department. Every year, we improve our facilities & equipment to become more efficient.

With more & more legal & different services available to customers, Michel (my brother who is a Chartered Accountant) decided to join us in 1997. Together, we form a team of professionals that is capable of adjusting to the market changes & new products.

A lot has happened in the last 43 years from hand shake deals to computers, faxes and now the internet.
But the main reason we are still growing is that we have and will always try to listen to what our customers demand. We are not perfect but we do care about your business & needs and we hope that we can be of help in your next purchase or questions.

Thanks you and hoping to hear from you.

LUC POIRIER

P.S. Stop in, we always have some fresh coffee.

A few months after Luc wrote this letter, he felt sick and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After fighting the disease for 5 months, he died at home on October 5, 1999 at the age of 31. He will always be in our hearts.
